Notes
Survey number HABS CO-160
Building/structure dates:
1881 initial construction
Significance: The only commercial building from the 1880's secondary business district on Gunnison surviving with its original character intact. The Roads Building I also has one of the most ornamental facades surviving: pilasters, applied moldings below shop windows, bracket supporting main cornice, secondary cornice, etc. Like its eastern neighbor, the building illustrates speculative commercial building during the initial boom of a mining camp. Roads erected this building in the 1880's and rented it for some 25 years.
